In the Heat of the Night (1967)

After a wealthy Chicago businessman is murdered in a small Mississippi town, police chief Bill Gillespie (Rod Steiger) is pressured to quickly find the killer. When Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier), a black man, arrives in town he becomes a suspect and is immediately arrested. It's not long before Gillespie learns that Tibbs is a well-respected homicide detective from Philadelphia. After some convincing, Tibbs is swayed to stay and help with the investigation and together they try to solve the crime. Based on the novel by John Ball, the film was directed by Norman Jewison. Winner of five Academy Awards including Best Picture in 1967.

Moonstruck (1987)

Loretta accepts the proposal of Johnny, a man she doesn't love, simply because he knows how to propose well. Shortly after Johnny leaves for Italy to visit his dying mother, Loretta visits his estranged brother Ronny to invite him to the wedding, but things get complicated when she unexpectedly falls in love with him. The comedic film stars Cher, Nicolas Cage and Danny Aiello. Winner of three Academy Awards, the film was directed by Norman Jewison.

Insomnia (2002)

Directed by Christopher Nolan, Insomnia follows two LA police detectives, Dormer and Eckhart, working on a murder case in Alaska. While searching for the alleged murderer, Dormer accidentally shoots and kills his partner. With an alibi in his corner, Dormer hides the true facts of the shooting and continues investigating the murder. In the meantime his guilt, the midnight sun and a blackmailer is giving him insomnia. Starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank.
